Successful Retailers Use Reusable Polypropylene Shopping Bags
Rusty May 11, 2021 ArticleSuccessful Retailers Use Reusable Polypropylene Shopping Bags
PP, or Polypropylene, reusable shopping bags are very popular and are used by major retailers from around the world. In fact, it is now becoming a very common sight, and the retailers that are not yet offering reusable woven shopping bags to their customers are falling behind the times. These bags are sometimes given away free to customers when they make their purchase, or are sold and then used for promotional purposes in the future.
In the United States and Australia, the popular retail store Target offers reusable woven bags to customers. They do not give the bags away free to customers, but they have them available for sale at a cheap price. Then, they offer a great deal to customers to incentivize the future use of the reusable bags – they give a $0.05 discount for each reusable bag you use at the checkout. The savings will more than pay for the price of the bags over the course of a year, and helps reduce waste and costs for the Target chain.
IKEA, an international chain that is based in Sweden, offers reusable bags for their customers. This is just one of the many ways that IKEA helps to keep their costs down and to attract new customers to their store. The chain has always been praised for being forward-thinking and offering great deals, and this is seen even through their reusable bags, which are help build the store’s reputation as being eco-friendly.
Stores such as Asda in the UK and Wal-Mart in the United States and Mexico also offer reusable PP shopping bags. A small number of the stores are running a pilot program where they do not provide paper or plastic bags, but only reusable polypropylene shopping bags. This has been met with success and could begin to be implemented in more locations, as it is actually saving money in the long run and is giving the store a better reputation.
ALDI, an international retailer that is based in Germany, is growing quickly in popularity as being a place to get good quality groceries at a low price. Known for cutting costs at any way possible, many locations of the store do not offer any paper or plastic bags. You must either bring your own reusable shopping bag, or purchase one of the quality PP shopping bags that are available in the store. This helps cut down costs for ALDI, which in turn helps them keep their groceries cheap.
Carrefour, a company based in France that offers hypermarket stores worldwide, has also recently gotten into the reusable shopping bag campaign. When they started selling the reusable PP bags, they sold over 600,000 bags in the first six months that they ran the offer. Not only did this save them a lot of money on packaging costs, but this also got them additional profit that they would not have had access to.
